Innovating Design LG Refrigerator Ice@Door On September 2007, I proposed a new design for in-door Mechanical ice maker. This because the original Ice maker - that supposed to be applied in model we were developing - resulted with big Quality concerns related to the storage water tank. The “conception” for the new component took around 1 week, plus another 140-hours, 7-day working week to take it from the concept to the manufacturable stage. |

Risk wasn’t an option, that’s why I decided to eliminate completely the water tank, and instead of it, keep the original process of filling the Ice tray directly from the water faucet. The innovation in this assembly, was in fact, that the customer could remove the main tray (comes with two ice trays) and after filling with water, put it inside of mechanism and activate it pulling a lever, that twists the trays thru plastic gears. |

Nowadays, the mechanical ice maker is a Patented design used in all 13 cuft and above top mount refrigerator models produced in LG Monterrey plant. Also LG Korea and India are using the same concept in their models. And due to its practical and bold design, another companies like Samsung and Mabe made their own likeness ice maker. |
